Specialised Wheelchair Company Joins the Astris PME Family

We are excited to share some big news - Specialised Wheelchair Company (SWCo) has officially joined Astris PME!
This is an incredibly positive step forward for both our organisations, and most importantly, for the clients, families, and therapists we proudly support.
A strong history of service
SWCo has a rich history dating back to 1972, when it was founded by Michael Ford as the Australian Surgical Aid Centre. Over the past five decades, the business has evolved to become a trusted provider of wheelchairs, seating systems, and other scripted Assistive Technology (AT) across NSW and the ACT.
Under the leadership of Iain and Rhonda Hogg from 2000, SWCo built a strong reputation for high-quality, customised solutions, with local workshops and demonstration facilities in Sydney, Newcastle, and Canberra. Following their retirement in 2023, SWCo became part of the Country Care Group, before now beginning its next chapter with Astris PME.

Why this is such a great fit
Astris PME and SWCo share the same passion for helping people living with disability achieve greater independence, comfort, and quality of life. By joining forces, we’re bringing together the expertise and local relationships of SWCo with the national reach, infrastructure, and resources of Astris PME.
For therapists and clients, this means:
- Continued support from the same trusted SWCo team
- Access to an expanded range of world-class scripted AT solutions
- Greater availability of trial equipment
- Enhanced service and workshop capabilities across more locations
Looking ahead together
Astris PME CEO, Steve Joyce, summed it up perfectly:
"Specialised Wheelchair Company has improved the lives of countless people for many years, and now, together, we can go even further."
We are proud to welcome the SWCo team into the Astris PME family and are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring for local communities across NSW, the ACT, and beyond.
Our growing network
Astris PME now operates showrooms, experience centres, and workshops across Australia - including Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Young, Brisbane, Bundaberg, Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, and Perth. We’re also investing in the future, with upgrades to our Perth Experience Centre and a new facility underway in Morisset to better serve the Hunter region.
This is an exciting chapter for both Astris PME and Specialised Wheelchair Company - and most importantly, for the people we’re here to support every day.
