For many years, 24 Hour Positioning has proudly supported clients with complex postural needs through highly specialised clinical services and custom-made seating, sleep systems, and accessories. Following the acquisition of Specialised Wheelchair Company and 24-Hour Positioning, we are entering an exciting new chapter in the way we deliver complex cushioning solutions.

As the industry continues to evolve, so too must our service model to ensure clients receive the very best outcomes. With this in mind, we have made the decision to close our custom moulded seating and custom cushion manufacturing service.

Why We Are Moving Away From Custom Moulded Seats & Cushions

Over the past decade, the assistive technology landscape has advanced rapidly. Today’s modular complex seating systems offer greater flexibility, superior adjustability, and improved clinical outcomes — particularly for clients whose needs change over time.

While our custom moulded seating and cushioning played an important role in supporting clients in the past, significant drawbacks now exist when compared with modern modular solutions. These include:
• Long and complex trial processes
• Multiple moulds required to capture fit
• Limited adjustability once manufactured
• Challenges accommodating changes in posture or body shape
• High repair, maintenance and remake costs

With modular seating systems now offering the same level of support, far greater adjustability, and improved sustainability, the industry has clearly shifted — and we are shifting with it.

“The outcomes we have achieved with our skilled Specialist Consultants mean we no longer need to continue with moulded seating. Highly trained consultants with out-of-the-box thinking, combined with advanced brands like Spex, Jay and Dreamline, now deliver adjustable and sustainable solutions for even the highest-needs clients. Astris PME has been supporting complex seating for over 20 years, and this evolution reflects our commitment to achieving the best long-term outcomes for clients.”

What This Means for Our Clients

While we say goodbye to custom moulded cushions, we remain fully committed to complex seating and postural management. Our Specialist Consultants will continue to deliver:
• Comprehensive seating assessments
• Sleep positioning assessments
• Complex AT trials and prescriptions
• Pressure mapping and postural risk management
• Manual handling education
• Ongoing seating reviews and support

This change allows us to focus our expertise on innovative modular seating solutions that can evolve as our clients’ needs evolve — ensuring continuity, comfort, and clinical effectiveness over time.

Please note: There may be some clients where clinicians feel custom moulded seating is the best solution. In these cases, there are other suppliers who can assist with this.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

Our purpose remains unchanged: to support functional ability, protect body shape, and improve quality of life through exceptional postural care.

Although this chapter is closing, the future is brighter than ever. By aligning our clinical expertise with proven modular technologies, we can deliver:

  • Faster outcomes
  • Greater adjustability
  • Better long-term fit
  • More sustainable seating and cushioning solutions
